Robert Hopson Construction Group was so honored to team up with shm Architects this year to build a "Big Dog Doghouse" for the 2019 AIA|TEXO Bark + Build Design/Build Competition, hosted in North Park Shopping Center.

Bark + Build is a design/build competition of original, one-of-a-kind pet homes created by professional teams consisting of licensed architects and contractors. The built designs will be on display at NorthPark Center from November 21st – December 8th. All the homes will be available for silent auction through online bidding with all proceeds going to SPCA of Texas. To learn more about SPCA of Texas and their work, please visit www.spca.org.

The “Big Dog” award is presented to the team that presents the best design for large dogs. We are thrilled to be named the winner of the Big Dog award this year for our “Four Green Gables” dog house!

Almost as old as the act of building itself, the gable has become the quintessential roof form for “home” around the world.  A gable roof’s triangular silhouette is not only delightfully symmetrical, but also serve the important purpose of shedding away rain efficiently.  This entry features a cross-gabled roof set upon a sturdy platform with legs, a spacious wood-decked interior, and generous natural ventilation.  It recalls the comforting shape of home and celebrates the craft of old-fashioned carpentry.
